The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Boeing's changes to the B787 production line clearing the way for the resumption of their deliveries.
"Boeing has made the necessary changes to ensure that the B787 Dreamliner meets all certification standards. The FAA will inspect each aircraft before an airworthiness certificate is issued and cleared for delivery. We expect deliveries to resume in the coming days," the regulator said.
American Airlines became the first airline to take a B787 following the recertification after B787-8 N880BJ (msn 66000) was ferried from Charleston International to Victorville for completion on August 10, 2022. The carrier has a further twelve -8s and thirty B787-9s on order from Boeing (including via Boeing Capital).
Boeing suspended B787 deliveries in late 2020 due to fuselage manufacturing issues. Production and deliveries briefly restarted in March 2021 but were again suspended in May. This suspension has lasted for nearly 1.5 years.
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that Boeing has 497 unfilled B787 Family aircraft orders. American Airlines' backlog is the largest for a single airline, followed by Lufthansa and Etihad Airways with 32 orders each.
