Belize's domestic and regional carrier Maya Island Air (2M, Belize City Municipal) is exploring the retrofitting of its fleet with zero emission propulsion technologies.
UK-based Monte Aircraft Leasing, which specialises in financing and leasing solutions for zero-emission technology to regional aircraft operators, has announced it has signed an agreement with Maya Island Air, encompassing all technical and financial aspects of the conversion process.
Maya Island Air operates a fleet of fourteen Cessna (single turboprop) 208B Grand Caravans on scheduled and charter flights throughout Belize as well as to neighbouring Guatemala.
"We believe their route network is well suited to the adoption of zero-emission propulsion technologies and are excited to work with them on this journey towards net zero," Monte said in a statement.
Another operator which recently signed a similar agreement with Monte is Botswana's Mack Air (MKB, Maun), which operates a fleet of seventeen Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EXs in the ecologically-sensitive Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area in Southern Africa.
