Wizz Air Holdings has confirmed it is expecting the first of forty-seven A321-200NY(XLR) jets to start arriving from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) in 2024. The debut of the A321neo(XLR) at the airline will coincide with the rapid ascendancy of the A321-200N at the airline and the phasing out of the older Airbus models.
At present, the holding's fleet is spread across multiple AOCs with the ch-aviation fleets module showing Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) operating fifty A320-200s, six A320-200Ns, thirty-five A321-200s, and fifty-three A321-200NX while Wizz Air UK (W9, London Luton) employs three A320ceo, six A321ceo, and eight A321neo. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi (5W, Abu Dhabi International) employs four A321neo and the nascent Wizz Air Malta (W4, Malta International) is awaiting certification before adding any aircraft. Between June 30, 2022, and March 31, 2023, Wizz Air Holding expects to take thirty-six A321neo while eleven A320ceo jets will exit as their lease periods expire.
As of July 31, Wizz Air's order book at Airbus comprised firm orders for thirty-four A320neo, 247 A321neo(XLR)s, plus purchase rights for another seventy-five A321neo. In May, the airline exercised an option to convert twenty-one A320neo orders into higher capacity A321neo with deliveries spanning calendar years 2024 to 2026.
In their 1Q23 update in late July, the airline confirmed it expects to finish FY2023 with forty-four A320ceo planes, six A320neo, forty-one A321-200s, and ninety-one A321neo. By the end of FY2024, Wizz Air expects to have the first two A321neo(XLR)s in its fleet followed by eight more in FY2025, and 18 more in FY2026. In FY2027, that number will grow to 39 reaching 47 in FY2028. The carrier has yet to specify which AOC it will deploy the type to although it has hinted at using its extended range to tap into the Far East.
By March 31, 2028, Wizz Air is projecting having 379 aircraft in its fleet, up from 157 planes at the end of June.
