The Antigua and Barbuda business community has reserved its rights after formally distancing itself from marketing flyers announcing the debut of Antigua Airways (Antigua) on October 31.
In an email to its members, the Antigua and Barbuda Chamber of Commerce stated there had been no contact, no exchange of documents, and no arrangement between the business network, any of its office holders, directors, and the startup. “Any claim by any known member or representative of Antigua Airways of any affiliation to/with the Antigua and Barbuda Chamber of Commerce is untrue,” the Chamber stated.
However, it appears the statement followed confusion about a marketing flyer on the Antigua Airways social media platform, which announced the airline’s launch on October 31 from Lagos, Nigeria, returning on November 6, 2022. The Nigeria – Antigua and Barbuda Chamber of Commerce was listed on the flyer as responsible for enquiries. This is an entirely separate entity based in Abuja, Nigeria, and has been a promoter of the project.
According to Caribbean Loop News, Antigua Airways is a joint private-public partnership between Nigerian online travel agency Wakanow, African aviation services provider Aerostatus, and Nigerian printing and publishing firm Marvelous Mike Press Limited.
The startup reportedly plans to operate a chartered B767-300ER from its hub at Antigua to Lagos, Accra in Ghana, and Toronto Pearson, Canada.
