PIA - Pakistan International Airlines (PK, Islamabad International) has decided to reactivate both of its mothballed B777-300(ER)s within the next 45 days, Pakistan's English-language daily The News International has reported.
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that AP-BHW (msn 33779) has been in storage since March 2020 and AP-BID (msn 33780) since February 2021. The aircraft will join a further two active B777-300(ER)s. The carrier's B777 fleet also includes two B777-200(LR)s and six B777-200ERs (of which two are in storage).
During a meeting between CEO Amir Hayat and Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, it was decided that the airline should accelerate its work towards the addition of new medium- and long-haul aircraft in line with a plan to both grow and modernise the fleet. It recently issued an RFP for the dry-lease of up to five widebodies with deliveries expected in 2023 but has yet to select the winner of the tender. It has five B777-300(ER)s on order from Boeing, but deliveries of these aircraft, ordered in 2012, have been indefinitely postponed.
