Bangkok's Central Bankruptcy Court has approved an application by the administrators of Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) to increase the registered capital of the airline from THB21,827,719,170 baht (USD625.2 million) to THB336,824,601,650 baht (USD9.64 billion). The court gave the application the green light on December 14, 2022.

According to a December 15 Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) filing, the additional capital will come from the issuing of 31,499,688,248 ordinary shares with a par value of THB10 (USD0.29). Clause 5.6 of Thai's business reorganisation plan details the agreed guidelines for the capital increase. ch-aviation recently reported on the administrator's plans to divide the share allocation into five tranches which will be offered to groups of creditors, employees, and existing shareholders at different times to accommodate the airline's debt restructuring and fundraising needs.

After years of financial strife which predated, but were made worse by, the pandemic, Thai Airways is now enjoying some much-needed financial uplift and now requires only around half of the capital amount administrators initially thought would be needed to reorganise the airline. While the plan administrator Piyasvasti Armanand recently confirmed to ch-aviation that Thai wouldn't be returning their A380-800s to the air, the airline is reportedly in advanced talks with Boeing to acquire up to twenty B787-9s.
