Volotea (V7, Barcelona El Prat) has cancelled its recently announced plans to serve Algiers from two Italian airports without having ever operated a single flight.
The airline announced the routes from Naples Capodichino and Venice Marco Polo in mid-November, planning to launch them by the end of the month. However, shortly before they were due to comment, Volotea removed the flights from the schedule. The Spanish carrier was awarded rights to operate 4x weekly between Italy and Algeria on November 7 for the Summer 2022, Winter 2022/23, and Summer 2023 seasons.
The airline did not respond to ch-aviation's request for comment.
Algeria remains the most closed market in North Africa, except for Libya. The Italy-Algeria market is exclusively served by Air Algérie (AH, Algiers) which flies from Algiers to Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino, while ITA Airways (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) flies only from Rome.
