Turkish Technic, the maintenance wing of Turkish Airlines, is suing Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) for more than USD14.5 million, alleging that it did not return the emergency aircraft parts stock it was lent and that it refused to pay its invoices, reports Law 360.
Türk Hava Yollari Teknik Anonim Şirketi (Turkish Airlines Technic Inc.) filed the claim in the Commercial Court division of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales (case number CL-2022-000690) on December 21, 2022, which has now been made public. It charged that SpiceJet and its maintenance and repair subsidiary SpiceJet Technic had breached the terms of their aircraft component lending agreement signed in 2018.
Under that contract, Turkish Technic agreed to supply the Indian airline with working aircraft parts in exchange for non-serveable parts. In return, it charged the carrier for repairs and provided a stockpile of emergency replacement components.
The two companies terminated the contract after signing a similar component support agreement in 2021. Consequently, Turkish Technic wants SpiceJet to return the stockpile of replacement components loaned under the 2018 deal. It wants Spicejet to settle overdue invoices issued between March 2021 and December 2022, totalling more than USD12.5 million. The Turkish company also claims the airline owes it USD2 million under a guarantee it gave to meet some of its obligations. It is demanding interest on both amounts.
ch-aviation has approached both companies for comment.
