CSA Czech Airlines (Prague Václav Havel) will lease four A220-300s from Air Lease Corporation, having terminated an earlier 2021 commitment with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for the same number of those aircraft.

The lessor said all four A220s will deliver in 2024 and are sourced from its order book.

"These ALC A220s will greatly enhance our airline's operational strength as we modernise our fleet with highly efficient and environmentally friendly single-aisle aircraft. Czech Airlines is pleased to launch the cooperation with the ALC team at the time we celebrate our 100th anniversary in October 2023. Thanks to a brand-new cabin configuration, the aircraft offers best-in-class comfort for short- and medium-haul flights," Chairman Petr Kudela said.

The Czech flag carrier, currently owned by Smartwings Group, ordered four A220s directly from Airbus in 2019 but nixed them two years later, when it was in bankruptcy protection. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic ended, CSA indicated in late 2022 that it would seek to revive its A220 plans.

The ch-aviation fleets module shows the airline currently operates just two A320-200s. It plans to add one more A320 to its fleet this year.
