FlyNamibia (WV, Windhoek Eros) will become a franchise operator for Airlink (South Africa) (4Z, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) later this month, with all of the former's E145s operating under Airlink's '4Z' flight numbers from August 28. This follows the South African carrier buying a 40% stake in FlyNamibia last year.
With its fleet of Beech (twin turboprop) King Airs and four Westair Aviation-operated E145s, FlyNamibia flies to eight destinations within the country, as well as offering flights on the Windhoek - Cape Town International route. According to ch-aviation schedules data, FlyNamibia's Embraer-operated routes include Windhoek to Mpacha, Windhoek to Ondangwa, and Windhoek to Cape Town.
FlyNamibia's new deal with Airlink coincides with it gaining access to Airlink's Amadeus IT Group's Altea reservation portal and the global distribution system (GDS), allowing the Namibian carrier to expand its reach and grow its business while also making it easier for passengers to book flights on the airline.
"Joining the GDS is a major milestone for our growing airline, and it will be a boost for Namibia because it makes our flights, network and schedule visible to customers in parts of the world that, until now, we have been unable to access," said FlyNamibia CEO Andre Compion. "This is one of the logical progressions we envisaged when Airlink invested in FlyNamibia last September."
