JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda) has ended scheduled B777-200ER flight operations as of November 12, 2023, having already held a farewell ceremony for the type on October 26.
The carrier's sole remaining aircraft of the type JA703J (msn 32891) carried out its last return commercial flight between Tokyo Haneda and Okinawa Naha. The 20.8-year-old jet, which was delivered to JAL in 2003, seats up to 312 passengers, including 26 passengers in business class. It is based out of Haneda and had operated domestic services to Okinawa, Sapporo Chitose, Nagoya Chubu, and Fukuoka.
JAL had operated eleven B777-200ERs. Its current B777 fleet also includes thirteen B777-300(ER)s. All B777-200s and B777-300s were retired by April 2021 in relation with the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine issues.
The carrier had previously deferred the retirement of the type from September to November 2023 in order to ensure available uplift during the typhoon season.
