flydubai (FZ, Dubai International) has placed an order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for thirty B787-9s, its first widebody aircraft.
The Emirati carrier did not disclose any delivery timelines in a deal signed during the ongoing Dubai Airshow 2023.
The aircraft will join flydubai's existing fleet of forty-seven B737-8s, thirty B737-800s, and three B737-9s. The ch-aviation fleets module shows it has a further 136 B737-8s on firm order from Boeing, having recently dropped the B737-10 variant from its future delivery pipeline.
The new order comes shortly after sister carrier Emirates (EK, Dubai International) dropped its own commitment for thirty B787-9s, replacing it with twenty B787-8s and fifteen B787-10s. As such, the mainline operator is no longer poised to fly the -9 variant.
