Syrianair (RB, Damascus) and all other Syrian operators have been banned from operating to the European Union and from overflying Turkish airspace in two separate developments this week. Turkey had forced a Syrianair A320-200 on its way from Moscow Vnukovo to Damascus to land at Ankara Esenboga on October 10 claiming arms would have been onboard the civil aircraft. As part of the border conflicts between Syria and Turkey both countries have now banned the other from overflying their respective territories. The only two Syrianair destinations affected by these measures are Frankfurt International and Moscow Domodedovo. Syrianair can still serve Moscow but needs to fly a major detour to be able to avoid Turkish airspace.
