Silk Way Airlines (ZP, Baku Heydar Aliev International) has firmed an order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for two B747-8(F)s having previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding for four of the type in March. At present, it is still uncertain as to whether or not the airline will firm up the order for the remaining two freighters. There is some speculation, however, that the Azerbaijani cargo-operator could take on two out of an order of four B747-8(F)s deferred by Cargolux (CV, Luxembourg), from whom it also acquired three B747-400(F)s. In a March press release, Silk Way's Managing Director, Shamsaddin Mirsalayev, said the freighters would be delivered "beginning in 2014 with the fourth unit arriving in 2017."
