TAROM (RO, Bucharest Henri Coanda) could return to the international long-haul market with a proposed Bucharest Henri Coanda to Beijing Capital service. Romania's Mediafax newswire says the twice weekly service could launch in either June or July though this is still dependent on an official go-ahead from Beijing. While the route was suspended in 2003 for viability reasons, Romanian authorities believe strengthening trade and tourism ties between the two countries could render the route profitable this time round.

In 2013, Tarom's former CEO, Nicolae Demetriade, also alluded to plans to resume services to New York JFK, though given his dismissal, it is uncertain as to whether or not these plans are still valid.

At present, the Romanian carrier operates a fleet almost entirely dominated by narrowbodies including A318-100s, ATR42-500s and ATR72-500s, B737-300s, B737-700s and B737-800s, with its sole widebody being a 22.4 year old A310-300 used on flights to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion.
