Solaseed Air (6J, Miyazaki) has retired the B737-400 from revenue service following the type's last scheduled flight between Kumamoto and Tokyo Haneda on September 29. In anticipation of the type's retirement and its associated drop in capacity, the Japanese domestic carrier has moved to supplement its existing fleet of eleven B737-800s with additional leases.

As it stands, JTA - Japan Transocean Air (NU, Okinawa Naha) is Japan's last remaining operator of the B737-400 with a dozen still in operational service. However, the carrier does plan to begin their replacement with a new fleet of B737-800s starting in January 2016.
