JAL Express (Osaka Itami) has officially ceased to exist with its services having been integrated back into parent JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda) with effect from October 1. Japanese media report the subsidiary's last flight was on September 30.

Following a board of director's meeting in March this year, JAL said the would-be integration would occur in the form of a simplified merger; that is, JAL would absorb JAL Express' assets and liabilities.

The move will also allow the carrier to stabilize its domestic business by better matching capacity with demand while improving in-flight services.

JAL Express had operated a fleet of thirty-eight B737-800s on flights throughout the country as well as on wet-lease operations for its parent carrier.
