Pearl Aviation Australia (Darwin) says it is scaling back its Darwin charter operations in response to a drop in demand from the mining sector. The carrier confirmed to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) last week that redundancies would be effected but declined to mention how many of its 200-strong workforce would be let go.

The Northern Territory's economy is heavily dependent on mineral exports chief among them bauxite, manganese, gold, and uranium.

Pearl Aviation operates eleven Beech (twin turboprop) Super King Air 200s, four Metroliners, three Cessna 550/551/552s, and one IAI 1124 executive jet from bases in Darwin, Alice Springs, Port Hedland, Adelaide International, Nhulunbuy, and Katherine. It specializes in medevac services, and general and VIP charters.
