Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) has announced it expects to take delivery of its maiden A350-900 - D-AIXA (cn 74) - on Monday, December 19. Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 motors, the twinjet is the first of twenty-five that will be delivered from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) to Lufthansa between 2016 and 2023.
"Once Lufthansa has taken ownership of the aircraft on December 19, the A350-900 will be transferred to Munich during the week leading up to Christmas," the carrier said. "Lufthansa Technik in Munich will then install the cabin interior including the new Premium Economy Class as well as other features so that the new flagship aircraft will be ready to be presented to the public at the beginning of February."
As it stands, the type's first commercial flight - Munich-Delhi International, India - is scheduled for February 10, 2017. Service between the Bavarian hub and Boston is also on the cards.
In all, Lufthansa intends to base ten A350s out of its Munich hub.
