Primera Air, the airline unit of Scandinavia's Primera Travel Group, has signed an agreement with AerCap for the lease of two A321neo (Long Range). Announced during the 2017 Paris Air Show at Paris Le Bourget, the aircraft will deliver from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) during the last quarter of 2018 rendering the leisure specialist the type's tentative launch operator.
“Primera Air is very happy to sign the first Airbus A321LR aircraft that will come into operation, and very pleased to extend the long and solid cooperation we have had with AerCap," Primera Air President and CEO Andri M. Ingolfsson said. "The new Airbus 321LR will be a game changer in the industry and will enable Primera Air to be the first airline to open up new long haul routes, previously only viable with wide body aircraft, but with superior economics."
Inclusive of this announcement, Primera Air is due to take delivery of eight A321neo in 2018.
Primera Air operates across two AOCs - Primera Air Scandinavia (Billund) in Denmark which operates two B737-800s, and Primera Air Nordic (Riga) in Latvia which operates two B737-700s and five B737-800s. Collectively, they serve more than seventy airports across Europe.
Last month, Primera Air announced it would acquire/lease twenty B737-9s from Air Lease Corporation and Boeing. Alongside the A321neo(LR)s, the two types will be used to launch the carrier's maiden transatlantic services.
