United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) has confirmed it will shift its entire fleet of sixteen B767-400(ER)s to its New York Newark base with the onset of the Northern Winter 2017/18 season on October 29, 2017.
In a letter to cabin crew, United's Vice President (Chicago hub), John Slater said the carrier would replace the -400s, leaving their current home at Washington Dulles, with B767-300(ER)s currently based out of Newark.
The move is aimed at addressing issues related to flight crew seniority discrepancies United has faced since it merged with Continental Airlines (Houston Intercontinental) in 2010.
"I know that these moves don't come close to solving all of the seniority issues that running as two separate airlines has created," he said. "We hope that these aircraft swaps and transfer possibilities can at least do a little to create better opportunities for our Flight Attendants prior to integration."
This winter season, United's Newark-based B767-400(ER)s are scheduled to be used to serve Barcelona El Prat, Brussels National, Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini, Frankfurt International, Honolulu, London Heathrow, Milan Malpensa, Munich, Paris CDG, Rome Fiumicino, San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin, and Zurich.
