Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) has announced the addition of Jinka to its domestic network, connecting the southwestern city to Addis Ababa International from October 25. As previously reported, services to Shire/Indaselassie, in the northeast of the country, will also commence from the same date.
The flights will be the first commercial service for Jinka, which completed three years of construction in August at a total cost of ETB571 million (USD20.86 million) according to a recent news report by Addis Fortune. Additionally, the airport at Shire has been upgraded, at a cost of 400 million (USD14.61 million).
Construction work at both airports was undertaken by Ethiopian Airports Enterprise (EAE), which runs twenty-three airports throughout the country. Earlier this, EAE year merged with Ethiopian Airlines Group to form Aviation Holding Group.
