Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) is set to complete the takeover of the Düsseldorf-based operations of its parent Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) on December 1, when it would assume the 6x weekly route to New York Newark, the Lufthansa Group carriers have announced.
The service to Newark is currently still operated by Lufthansa with A330-300s. Its LCC unit will deploy A330-300s operated by Brussels Airlines (SN, Brussels National) on the route, complementing its existing 6x weekly A340-300 service to New York JFK.
This will leave Düsseldorf with just two Lufthansa mainline operated routes to its two hubs in Frankfurt International and Munich.
Lufthansa meanwhile adjusted its Frankfurt-Pune route scheduled to resume from November 1. Instead of a PrivatAir (Germany) (Düsseldorf) B737-700, it will now deploy its own A319-100 aircraft on the 6x weekly route, which will be operated with a technical stop in Baku Heydar Aliev International in both directions.
