Urumqi Air (UQ, Urumqi) has entered into an agreement with COMAC wherein the HNA Group subsidiary will take delivery of a total of five ARJ21-700s through 2019.
According to a COMAC statement issued during the Zhuhai Airshow 2018, Urumqi Air will add two ARJ21s this year followed by three more in 2019.
It is recalled that Urumqi Air signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with COMAC for twenty ARJ21s during this year's edition of the Farnborough Airshow. Airline chairman Han Luhai said at the time that the jets would be used to expand Urumqi Air's Xinjiang Province operations.
Urumqi Air currently operates fifteen B737-800s and one E190 on scheduled flights spanning 23 cities across China as well as Irkutsk International in Russia.
