JetSMART Argentina (WJ, Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini) is preparing to commence revenue services in Southern Winter 2019 after securing its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) from the Argentine civil aviation authority (Administración Nacional de la Aviación Civil - ANAC) on Thursday, December 20.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Estuardo Ortiz told La Nacion the start-up will start selling tickets in January ahead of a planned operational debut during the second quarter of 2019.
JetSMART Argentina currently possesses a single A320-200, LV-HEK (msn 8599), with two more expected to join in time for its launch. Thereafter, Ortiz said, a further two aircraft will be added.
The LCC intends to base up to 17 aircraft out of Buenos Aires El Palomar, its planned primary hub, by the end of 2019. Collectively, the jets will be used to operate up to 25 routes within Argentina.
JetSMART Argentina is US low-cost carrier specialist Indigo Partners' second LCC in South America after JetSMART (JA, Santiago de Chile) in Chile.
