KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL, Amsterdam Schiphol) has announced its intention to purchase fifteen E195-E2s with purchase rights for a further twenty of the type. The jets will be collectively placed with the Dutch carrier's regional subsidiary KLM Cityhopper (WA, Amsterdam Schiphol).

According to a statement, the initial agreement was signed during the 2019 Paris Air Show at Paris Le Bourget but still needs to be firmed before it is reflected in Embraer's order book. As it stands, deliveries are expected to start in 2021 and will continue to 2023.

KLM cityhopper started phasing out its Fokker Aircraft in 2008 and, according to the ch-aviation fleets module, now operates an all-Embraer fleet of seventeen E175s and thirty-two E190s. The E175s are just 2 years old on average, while the E190s are 7.6 years old on average.

KLM did not state whether it would use the E2s to replace its existing E1 fleet or for growth.

The order, once firmed, will become the largest airline order for E2 jets in Europe. So far, the new generation Embraer jets have been ordered by Helvetic Airways (2L, Zurich) (twelve E190-E2s) and Binter Canarias (NT, Gran Canaria) (five E195-E2s) in Europe. Widerøe (WF, Bodø) currently operates three E190-E2s and recently secured a fourth - LN-WEX (msn 19020015) (formerly B-602Q for HNA Group's GX Airlines and then Fuzhou Airlines) - on lease until November.
