Kuwait Airways (KU, Kuwait) has announced that it will suspend its operations to Italy and Thailand, as a result of growing global concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The decision was taken just 48 hours after it had reopened flights to both countries.
On February 28, the Middle East carrier said via social media that it was cancelling its services to both nations again "upon instructions from the competent government agencies." Just two days earlier Kuwait Airways had stated "in coordination with the distinguished committee of the Cabinet," that it would restart its "flight schedule to Rome Fiumicino Station in Italy and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Station in Thailand."
According to the ch-aviation schedules module, Kuwait Airways is scheduled to operate from Kuwait to Milan Malpensa 4x weekly and to Rome Fiumicino 3x weekly. It also offers 2,338 weekly seats to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi on its daily services to the Thai capital city.
Last week the airline operated a special repatriation flight to Milan bringing home Kuwaiti citizens from Italy.
Its flights to Iran, which were suspended on February 20, remain cancelled for the time being. Kuwait Airways usually offers a 3x weekly service to Tehran Imam Khomeini and a 2x weekly service to Mashad.
