Costa Rica Green Airways (GW, San José Tobías Bolaños) is to retrofit its fleet of Cessna (single turboprop) 208B Grand Caravan EX with zero-emission propulsion technology.
This follows an agreement signed with UK-based MONTE, which specialises in financing zero-emission technologies in the regional aviation market by retrofitting their existing aircraft with new electric, hybrid or hydrogen propulsion technologies as they are developed.
“We will work with Costa Rica Green Airways to identify the most suitable zero-emission propulsion technology for their operations, and will then finance the conversion of their fleet once this technology is approved and certified,” MONTE said in a statement.
Based in San Jose, Costa Rica, the domestic carrier operates its Cessna Grand Caravans on both scheduled and charter flights. The airline aims to be carbon neutral by 2027.
Established in November 2018, Costa Rica Green Airways started off with a twin-engine BN-2. In May 2020, it added a Quest Aircraft Kodiak 100, and in 2021 added two Cessna Caravan EXs. It also operates a Beech (twin turboprop) King Air F-90 for VIP flights.
