Avelo Airlines (XP, Burbank) has announced plans to launch its fourth base - at Wilmington New Castle - with five routes to Florida operated by a single B737-800.
The low-cost carrier will connect the Delawarean city with Orlando International (3x weekly), Fort Lauderdale International, Fort Myers Southwest Florida, Tampa International, and West Palm Beach International (2x weekly each), the ch-aviation schedules module shows. The base is scheduled to open on February 1, 2023.
Avelo said it hoped to serve not just Delaware, but also south-eastern Pennsylvania, including the Philadelphia metro area (Philadelphia International being just 38 kilometres away from Delaware airport), South Jersey, and the northern part of Maryland. The carrier will become the only commercial scheduled operator at Wilmington, DE, following Frontier Airlines' exit earlier this year, and as such, also the first airline with a crew base in the city. No other airport in Delaware has scheduled services.
Avelo Airlines currently operates six B737-700s and five -800s, the ch-aviation fleets module shows. It has bases at Burbank, New Haven, and Orlando.
