Air Tanzania (TC, Dar es Salaam) took delivery of its first B737-9, becoming the first operator of the type in Africa.
5H-TCP (msn 67790) was ferried from Seattle Boeing Field via San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin and Dakar Blaise Diagne International to Dar es Salaam over the course of September 30 to October 3, 2023. It is the first of two B737-9s ordered by the Tanzanian government directly from the manufacturer and is owned by TGF - Tanzania Government Flight. The carrier has said its B737-9 will seat up to 181 passengers.
The aircraft joins Air Tanzania's existing fleet of four A220-300s, one B767-300F, two B787-8s, one DHC-8-Q300, and five DHC-8-Q400s. The carrier has one more B787-8 on order from Boeing.
