Maldivian (Q2, Malé) will enter into a joint venture with the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to grow its seaplane business.
Mohamed Muizzu, president of the Maldives, issued a statement on October 1 saying that the government-initiated joint venture would "modernise, further expand, and sustain the Maldivian seaplane business." The statement added that the joint venture with MACL would be under "the complete control" of Island Aviation Services Ltd., as Maldivian is legally known, by April 30, 2025.
The state-owned carrier operates domestic inter-island services as well as international services to India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. According to ch-aviation fleets data, Maldivian operates 11 amphibious DHC-6-300s in addition to 14 conventional aircraft. The seaplane services operate as a standalone Maldivian business division.
MACL is a wholly state-owned limited liability company and the country's largest airport operator and service provider. It already provides services to privately-owned Trans Maldivian Airways (TMW, Malé), the world's largest seaplane operator.
