Clay Lacy Aviation (CLY, Van Nuys) has obtained a lease at Sun Valley airport, Idaho to build a new Fixed Base Operation. The new FBO will be built on a 10-acre (40,500-square-metre) plot with construction to begin once the design is finalised and permits secured. No specific date for the opening was given.
The new facility will be the operator's fourth FBO, following those at Van Nuys, Oxford, CT, and Santa Ana, CA airports.
Separately, the US Department of Transportation has revoked the airline's interstate and foreign certificates of public convenience and necessity authorising it to operate large jets, due to the prolonged absence of such aircraft in its fleet. The DOT's decisions were issued on September 5 and November 6, 2024, and have no impact on Clay Lacy's operations, as it was not using those certificates.
Clay Lacy obtained its interstate permit in 2004 when it planned to add its first large aircraft, specifically a B737-700(BBJ). The ch-aviation fleets history module shows that it operated two of the type starting in 2006 but retired them by 2012. The DOT determined this period was long enough to qualify as dormancy and accordingly revoked the permit without opposition from the operator.
Clay Lacy Aviation's Part 135-certified fleet currently comprises 55 jets, the largest of which are two Legacy 600s.
