Taiwan's president says his country would provide a preferential loan to Air Marshall Islands (CWM, Majuro) to allow it to buy more aircraft. President Lai Ching-te made the promise during a December 3 speech to the Marshallese Legislature while on a state visit to that country.

"Taiwan will gladly provide the Marshall Islands with a preferential loan for Air Marshall Islands to procure new aircraft, Lai said. "We appreciate the problems faced by Air Marshall Islands in maintaining its fleet."

Air Marshall Islands recently ordered two 19-seat Cessna 408s with delivery expected from December 2025. It also expects to purchase a Do228 early next year. The airline is a commercially operated carrier owned by the Marshall Islands government and is the only scheduled passenger operator based in the mid-Pacific country.

The president, who is also visiting Hawaii, Tuvalu, Palau, and Guam on a diplomatic tour, did not disclose further details about the loan. However, the offer was reportedly well received by the 33-member legislature.
