Batik Air Malaysia (OD, Kuala Lumpur International) says it remains committed to Kuala Lumpur Subang and will increase frequencies on existing routes from the airport and introduce new routes over the next few months, according to a March 14 press release. The announcement follows a decision by AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) to terminate its short-lived operations at Subang.

Subang is Kuala Lumpur's secondary airport and is undergoing a large-scale redevelopment, including upgrading infrastructure to handle more passenger jet movements. Ahead of its exit, AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia, and Firefly (FY, Penang) are the only carriers to have scheduled passenger jet operations at the airport. According to the ch-aviation PRO airports module, Batik Air flies to Penang, Kota Kinabalu, and Kota Bharu from Subang.

“Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport holds immense potential as a modern city airport, and Batik Air is fully committed to its transformation," said CEO Chandran Rama Muthy. However, he added that he needed more slots for Batik's planned expansion. He called on Malaysia's Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, the Malaysian Aviation Commission, and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd to work together to make more slots available.

“Facilitating this process would allow us to enhance connectivity, introduce more services efficiently, and contribute to Subang Airport’s continued development,” he said.
