Rainbow Airlines (Harare International) is set to join Zimbabwe's growing list of privately backed carriers seeking to exploit the country's under-served yet overpriced domestic and regional markets. According to a Government Gazette published last Friday, Rainbow Airlines has applied to the country’s aviation licensing board seeking permission to start both domestic and regional flights, though no precise route allocations have yet been divulged. Ordinarily, the only really viable routes, namely Harare International - Bulawayo - Victoria Falls along with Harare - Johannesburg O.R. Tambo and Victoria Falls - Johannesburg, are generally the preserve of Air Zimbabwe (UM, Harare International).
