Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR, Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery) will terminate its Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini to Sydney Kingsford Smith service effective April 2, 2014. In a run down of its future operational plans, the Argentine national carrier said the route's poor economic performance had left it no choice but to withdraw from the route, rendered expensive owing to load and fuel penalties required to fly the route nonstop. As such, this effectively leaves Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) and LAN Airlines (Santiago de Chile) with a monopoly on Oceania - South American flights. On a more positive note, Aerolineas says the corresponding freeing up of equipment will allow it to boost frequencies to Latin America, Europe and the US where tourist demand has shown strong growth.
