South Supreme Airlines (Juba) and various other carriers (including Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta)) that operate into and out of the South Sudanese capital, Juba, have had their operations severely disrupted following the closure of the airfield late on the evening of Sunday, December 16. The airport was closed after soldiers loyal to sacked former deputy prime minister, Riek Machar, staged an attempted coup against the government of Salva Kiir. Reports out of Juba state the uprising has since been put down by South Sudanese security forces with a night-time curfew for civilians now in force.
