Air Mekong (Ho Chi Minh City) is set to resume operations next year after it filed its proposed restructuring plan with the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (Cục Hàng không Dân dụng Việt Nam - CAAV) last month. CAAV deputy director, Vo Huy Cuong, told VnExpress that his agency had now instructed the country's Ministry of Transport to disregard an earlier directive to nullify the airline's operating licence.
Established in 2009, Air Mekong had plied an exclusively domestic Vietnamese route network using a fleet of four CRJ900s leased from SkyWest Airlines (OO, St. George Municipal). However, following heavy losses, it ceased operations in March last year. Among the reasons given for the airline's poor financial state are the alleged high operating costs associated with the CRJ-900.
Management is said to be reviewing its fleeting options ahead of the airline's resumption of services.
