Skybus (United Kingdom) (IOS, Land's End) will suspend its Land's End operations between July 4 and 20 as a result of upgrade work to the airport's grass runways. Flights to Isles of Scilly St. Mary's will instead operate out of Newquay for the duration of the works.
Following a request to the European Regional Development Fund, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company says it has now been granted GBP1.3million (USD2.20million) in funding allowing the project - which entails the hardening of the airport's runways - to proceed.
According to BusinessCornwall, the upgrade is part of a broader strategic programme of investment worth a total of GBP9million that also includes upgrades to the Isles of Scilly Airport on St Mary’s.
The project aims to strengthen lifeline air links to the islands, especially during poor weather.
