Skybus (United Kingdom) (IOS, Land's End) has announced that it will close its hangar at Newquay in May 2020 and will consolidate its engineering at its Land's End base following a reduction in its fleet complexity.
The airline's owner and operator, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, said in a press statement the decision to vacate Newquay was due to the company moving to operate one type of aircraft instead of two. Up until recently, Skybus had operated four BN-2s, but its fleet has now been consolidated to three DHC-6-300s to stem its losses.
Speaking to ch-aviation, a spokesman for the group said: “We have taken the decision not to renew our lease on the hanger at Newquay as part of our strategy to move Skybus to a stronger financial position. This decision does not impact our current flight schedule from Newquay.”
According to the ch-aviation schedules module, Skybus operates 22x weekly from Isles of Scilly St. Mary's to Land's End and 6x weekly to Newquay.
