Royal Jordanian (RJ, Amman Queen Alia) and Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) have announced the resumption of their respective Iraq services. Royal Jordanian said in a communique that it had resumed its Baghdad, Erbil, and Basrah services on August 3 with Sulaymaniyah to follow in due course. It did not foresee any future resumption of flights to Mosul which is currently occupied by militants loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).

For its part, Lufthansa said it, along with Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna), would resume a twice daily Erbil service with effect from August 4 with all flights to be rerouted so as to avoid overflying ISIS-controlled territory.

"The Lufthansa Group is in close and regular contact with the relevant national security authorities, also in Iraq. Based on our own assessment, there is currently no danger in overflying Iraq. Nevertheless, the Lufthansa Group has decided to avoid the Iraqi airspace above the section controlled by ISIS for the time being," it said.
