Gambia Bird (Banjul) has been forced to cancel its planned resumption of Freetown, Sierra Leone, to London Gatwick flights after the UK Department for Transport revoked the carrier's flight permit citing the deteriorating public health situation in the West African country.

Flights, which were to have resumed on Friday, October 17, have now been postponed indefinitely.

The Germania (Berlin Schönefeld) subsidiary says, however, that its flights to London Gatwick from Banjul and Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International are not affected by the move.

Sierra Leone, along with Liberia and Guinea, has borne the brunt of the ongoing Ebola outbreak which has so far killed over 4'000 people throughout the region.
