YOU Wings (Ipoh) has entered a partnership agreement with Indonesia's Sriwijaya Air (SJ, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) wherein the two carriers plan to open up flights from Ipoh, Malaysia to destinations across south-east Asia with effect from next year.
Speaking at the inauguration of the joint-venture's maiden 4x weekly flight from Medan Kuala Namu, Indonesia, YOU Wings CEO Daniel Lee told the Utusan newspaper that among the destinations being considered are two in China.
“Three of them are direct flights to Indonesia while the other three involve countries in Southeast Asia,” he said. "Our hope is to attract more tourists to visit here for the successful Malaysia Annual Festival (MyFest) in 2015 that will put Ipoh on the world tourism map."
Formerly Flying Fox Airways (Ipoh), YOU WIngs has long sought to develop a regional hub with previous plans alluding to possible service to Kuala Terengganu, Dhaka, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou.
