Air Tahiti Nui (TN, Papeete) could join Oneworld this year the Minister of Tourism for French Polynesia, Jean-Christophe Bouissou, has told Tahiti Nui Télévision (TNTV).
In an interview, Bouissou said: "In addition, to enhance service, Air Tahiti Nui is poised to enter the Oneworld Alliance which would take us from 6 to 7 code shares currently, to more than a hundred."
The Tahitian carrier has a strong existing relationship with oneworld codesharing with members American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth), JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda), and Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) on flights throughout the Pacific, Asia, and to the United States.
The choice of joining Oneworld, as opposed to Skyteam, is believed to have been dictated by the volume of traffic to and from the archipelago's largest market, the United States.
