The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced it is proposing to fine Centurion Air Cargo (Miami International) and Image Air (Bloomington/Normal) and for alleged violations of US Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR).
Concerning Centurion Air Cargo, the FAA is proposing a USD66,000 penalty for the alleged operation of a freighter that was not FAR compliant. It claims the Miami-based freight specialist operated an MD-11(F) on at least twelve flights between June 5 and 11, 2013 while failing to comply with its Minimum Equipment List (MEL) procedures after receiving a fuel quantity fault indication during a June 5 flight.
An MEL specifies what equipment may be inoperable during a flight pending repair of that equipment.
In addition, the FAA also claims Centurion operated the aircraft on four of the flights after discovering that the door slide indicator did not light, again in contravention of MEL procedures.
The two parties have already been in touch concerning the matter.
Concerning Image Air, the FAA is proposing an USD84,700 civil penalty against the carrier for allegedly allowing an unqualified pilot to fly its aircraft.
The FAA alleges that between June and September 2014, the Illinois-based company allowed one of its pilots to fly on at least sixteen revenue flights when he had not passed a required FAA competency check within the past twelve months for the category, class, and type of aircraft he was operating.
Image Air has thirty days from receipt of the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the agency.
