Malmö Aviation (Malmö) is planning to establish a new base in the northern Swedish town of Umeå before the end of the year. According to Flygtorget, the carrier plans to develop Umea into a crew base offering daily direct flights to Gothenburg Landvetter. To help foster the route, the carrier will initially operate it using a Saab 2000 graduating to larger aircraft, such as the ARJ-100 and ATR72, as and when demand dictates.
While Malmö Aviation does, at present, serve Gothenburg, it does so via Stockholm Bromma.
The ch-aviation route database shows Norwegian (Oslo Gardermoen), SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup), and AIS Airlines (Netherlands) (PNX, Lelystad) all currently connect Umeå with other parts of Sweden including Stockholm Arlanda, Östersund, and Kiruna.
