Uralsk International Airport, situated in north-western Kazakhstan, is to close from September 1 to October 15, 2015 to allow for the completion of ongoing runway upgrade and expansion works.
Since resuming control of the airfield, government set about upgrading the 2,400m-long 04/22 early last year with the aim of resuming widebody operations that were suspended in 2013 as a result of the runway's poor condition.
Uralsk is an important transport hub catering to the nearby town of Aksay, a key oil and gas conduit in West Kazakhstan.
The airfield's only known scheduled operator are cargo airline ATMA (Kazakhstan) (Atyrau) which serves Tbilisi on behalf of Coyne Airways (7C, London Stansted) and Air Astana (KC, Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev) which serves Almaty International and Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev.
