Greenland Express (Aalborg) has revised its fleet and operational plans and is now looking to lease SSJ 100/95s in preparation for its proposed relaunch later next year.
Scandinavian aviation news portal, newstodate, reports the Danish virtual carrier is now pursuing its own Air Operators Certificate (AOC) having relied on chartered Fokker 100s from Denim Air ACMI (Amsterdam Schiphol) during its brief operational stint last year.
As such, Greenland Express's founder and CEO, Gert Brask, is in talks with Russian lessors over a deal which could see two regular Superjets delivered in 2016 with three LR variants due in 2017/18. Network plans should see the airline expand its coverage beyond its current Denmark-Greenland scope, Brask said.
During the build-up to its planned resumption of operations in June this year, Greenland Express had planned to charter an A319-100 from Bulgaria's BH Air - Balkan Holidays Air (8H, Sofia). The plan, however, was later abandoned for unclear reasons.
Aside from Brask's shareholding, Greenland Express also counts Southern African agricultural and commodity investment specialist Würban Group as a shareholder having a 35% stake in July.
