SeaPort Airlines (Portland International) has announced the sale of its Wings of Alaska (Juneau International) subsidiary to fellow Alaskan specialist carrier, Fjord Flying Service (Juneau International).
Though SeaPort did not disclose the value of the transaction, Fjord Flying Service will acquire the Wings of Alaska brand as well as all buildings, vehicles, and groundhandling equipment at Wings of Alaska's Hoonah, Haines and Gustavus stations. No aircraft are involved.
"Air service to rural Alaska communities has many unique challenges and aspects to it that contrast significantly with our Lower 48 operations," SeaPort president Rob McKinney said in a statement to the Juneau Empire Journal. "We believe that a company, such as Fjord Flying Service, that exclusively serves southeast Alaska will be able to better meet the needs of the communities and customers."
As a result of the deal, SeaPort will end its own operations in Southeast Alaska, which are branded as Wings of Alaska, after the last scheduled flight lands in Juneau International on Friday, October 16, 2015.
Founded in 1982, Wings of Alaska specializes in scheduled passenger and cargo air service to small communities in Southeast Alaska. Fjord Flying Service, for its part, is a southeastern Alaskan specialist operating a fleet of Cessna (single piston) 206s and 207s.
