Wings of Alaska (Juneau International) has ceased all operations several weeks after flights were originally suspended, the Juneau-based carrier's managing partner Aldwin Harder has confirmed.
“The decision is primarily an economic one," he told the Juneau Empire newspaper. "This is a difficult business to make money in. A difficult business to be in."
Harder said Wings of Alaska had been formed “just to bring some competition to the aviation market,” but that it has struggled since its sale from previous owners, the now defunct SeaPort Airlines (Portland International), to Fjord Flying Service (Juneau International) in late 2015.
The announcement follows the collapse of another Alaskan operator, Yute Air (Bethel), last week also citing a difficult operating environment.
Wings of Alaska operated two Cessna (single turboprop) Grand Caravan 208Bs, one Cessna (single piston) 206 and three 207s on scheduled and charter flights throughout Southeast Alaska and Western Canada.
